Lauren and Jason lucked out with a perfect New England summer day for their Popponesset Inn Wedding! Not only was I looking forward to photographing at a beautiful Cape Cod wedding venue, but I couldn’t wait to see this amazing couple marry! I had the pleasure of getting to know them over dinner a few months prior and we immediately clicked, becoming fast friends.
These two met during their sophomore year at The University of New Hampshire through mutual friends and ended up taking classes together as upperclassmen. After dating and some unforeseen COVID delays, Jason proposed at their favorite outdoor hangout in Brookline, Schick Park. It was an easy “yes!” for Lauren, as they enjoyed an intimate picnic with cheese and champagne.
Fast forward to wedding planning! Jason and Lauren selected The Popponesset Inn as their wedding venue, as it played a very special role in their lives. Lauren’s grandfather was a greenskeeper and golf professional at New Seabury Country Club. Her family spent a great deal of time summering in Popponessett over the years, and continue to maintain their family home to this day. Not to mention, Lauren’s parents were married at The Popponesset Inn, so she was overjoyed to follow in their footsteps! I always love hearing about these sentimental details and when venue selections are meaningful to the couple.
While Lauren’s bridesmaids got ready for the wedding, they wore the cutest matching pajama sets by Draper James. Lauren wore a white, Hill House Nap Dress with an adorable pair of matching slippers (a total pro tip if you’re looking for an easy, yet fashionable outfit that won’t risk damaging your hair and makeup as you change into your gown!). I always recommend that we set aside a few minutes for a quick photo of you and your girls in your matching getting-ready outfits!
Jason and Lauren decided to share a private first look before the ceremony. There are so many benefits to scheduling a first look into your timeline! When they saw each other for the first time that day, my second photographer and I were the only ones to witness it. They were able to soak in this moment, privately, before their families and guests arrived.
Following their first look, I drove them to the ceremony space, where Lauren’s dad and brother were waiting. Not having a camera on me while driving, almost cost me the opportunity to catch this touching, unplanned moment. Thankfully, I was able to jump out of the car, grab my camera quickly and capture the genuine emotion that unfolded the moment we arrived. Before the ceremony, we took family and wedding party portraits right on property at the picturesque Popponessett Inn. Since we scheduled all formal portraits early on, Jason and Lauren were able to enjoy cocktail hour with their friends and family!
The ceremony views from The Popponesset Inn tent are nothing short of stunning. A floral installation hung from the ceiling, framing the altar where they would exchange their vows. This incredible piece remained during the reception and made quite a statement as it hung above the head table.
Their wedding cake was made by a bakery in New Jersey, where Lauren’s family is from. It was a timeless, classic-looking cake embellished with pearls. You would’ve never known that it was hand delivered, all the way from New Jersey!
As the sun began to set, we stepped away from their reception and took some romantic sunset beach photos. I always advise my couples to take at least five minutes to do sunset portraits, even if that means leaving for a few minutes during dinner. You won’t regret it, I promise!
During parent dances, Mother Nature really showed off with a sunset that created a cotton candy-looking sky. The evening carried on with one of the most energetic dance floors I have ever seen! When I say everyone was on their feet to dance the night away, I mean it!
I’m so excited to be photographing their next family wedding this coming fall in Maine! It’s going to be great reuniting with everyone, and dancing the night away, yet again!
It was so enjoyable to work alongside Lauren on her wedding planning journey. I understand, first-hand, how stressful wedding planning can be, so I was glad to be a resource for her. Creating a detailed timeline helped us both before and during the wedding day, and everyone appreciated that we stayed right on track!
